01 · THE BASICS

Understanding hypnosis

Start here for a straightforward explanation of hypnosis, awareness, control, NLP, and EMDR.

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and increased absorption. You remain aware, can hear and respond, and may stop at any time. During a session, guided attention and suggestion are used to help you explore patterns and practice more useful responses.
People often describe hypnosis as calm, focused, and similar to becoming absorbed in a book, a daydream, or guided meditation. Experiences vary, and there is no single sensation you must achieve for a session to be useful.
No. Hypnosis is not sleep or unconsciousness. You remain able to hear, think, speak, and make choices throughout the process.
No. You remain in control and can end the exercise whenever you choose. Hypnosis is closer to focused relaxation than to being trapped in a separate state.
No. A hypnotist cannot take over your mind or force you to act against your values. The process is collaborative: Jeffrey guides the exercise, while you decide what to accept, discuss, or do.
Yes. The ability to focus, imagine, and follow a guided exercise is more relevant than being “weak-minded.” Highly analytical people may simply prefer clearer explanations and a structured approach.
NLP is a collection of communication, reframing, and guided-imagery techniques intended to help people examine learned patterns and practice different responses. Jeffrey may combine selected NLP exercises with hypnosis when appropriate.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a structured approach commonly used by appropriately trained mental-health professionals. Ask Jeffrey which related techniques are within the scope of his services and whether a licensed clinician or referral may be more appropriate.
02 · SESSIONS

What to expect

Timing, number of visits, individual sessions, age considerations, and the concerns Jeffrey currently accepts.

The first appointment generally lasts about 90 minutes to two hours. Follow-up sessions are usually scheduled for approximately 60 minutes, although exact timing can vary according to the goals and work being completed.
There is no standard number that fits every person or concern. The first session helps clarify your goals, history, and likely plan. Progress depends on the issue, your participation, and how consistently you practice agreed exercises between sessions.
Jeffrey’s primary focus is anxiety-related concerns and the patterns that may contribute to them. Suitability is considered individually during the consultation. Hypnosis and NLP services are complementary and do not replace licensed medical or mental-health care.
No. These are not services currently offered by Western PA Hypnosis.
No. Sessions are provided one-to-one so the conversation, exercises, and pacing can be tailored to the individual.
Jeffrey has worked with a broad age range. Services for minors are considered case by case and may require a parent or guardian’s involvement and consent. Please discuss age and circumstances during the consultation.
You may bring a friend or family member for support, but they will generally wait outside the session room. The therapeutic work itself is normally conducted privately and one-to-one.
Usually not, because privacy supports honest and focused conversation. A limited exception may be considered for a minor when parental presence is appropriate.
03 · SAFETY & PRIVACY

Comfort starts with clarity

Clear expectations about control, scope, privacy, recordings, and the difference between private work and entertainment.

When used responsibly, guided hypnosis and NLP exercises are generally considered low-risk, but they may not be appropriate for every person or situation. Share relevant medical or mental-health information and ask your licensed healthcare provider when you are unsure.
No. Western PA Hypnosis provides complementary services and does not diagnose or treat medical or psychiatric conditions. Do not delay or replace care from a qualified physician, psychologist, counselor, or emergency service.
Some physicians, dentists, psychologists, and other qualified professionals use hypnosis as a complementary technique in appropriate settings. Whether it is suitable for you depends on your goals, health history, and the provider’s scope of practice.
No. You remain able to choose what you say and do. You can decline a suggestion, pause the exercise, or stop the session at any time.
No. Hypnosis is a focused-attention technique, not a religious or supernatural practice. People from many belief systems can use it without changing their personal beliefs.
Stage hypnosis is entertainment conducted in a very different setting. Private client sessions are collaborative, confidential, goal-focused, and do not involve embarrassing performances.
Sessions may be recorded for professional and safety purposes. Recordings are treated as confidential and are not shared without written permission unless disclosure is legally required. Ask about the current recording and retention policy before your appointment.
Personal information and session discussions are treated as private. As with most helping relationships, legal or safety-related exceptions may apply. Review the Confidentiality information and ask any questions before beginning.
04 · PRACTICAL DETAILS

Policies before booking

Review scheduling, payment, refunds, insurance, remote appointments, and realistic expectations before reserving time.

No ethical practitioner can guarantee a particular outcome. Jeffrey can promise a sincere, prepared effort and a clear process, but results vary and depend substantially on the client’s goals, participation, and circumstances.
Start with the free consultation. You can explain what has been happening, ask questions, and decide whether the approach feels appropriate before scheduling a paid session.
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice when rescheduling. Missed appointments, late changes, or cancellations without rescheduling may be charged according to the current policy.
Sessions, including packages or multiple sessions, are paid in advance. Confirm the current fee and accepted payment methods before booking.
Time is reserved and preparation is completed for each appointment, so completed services are not refundable. Ask about the current policy before purchasing a session or package.
Coverage is uncommon and varies by plan. Contact your insurer directly before booking. When appropriate, Western PA Hypnosis can provide an invoice, but reimbursement is never guaranteed.
Yes. Remote appointments may be available through Google Meet for clients located within the continental United States. Suitability and availability are confirmed during the consultation.
