Fibromyalgia Symptoms, Clarion PA

Fibromyalgia symptoms can vary from one person to another.  Don’t assume that what you’re feeling or experiencing is Fibromyalgia, only a doctor can give you that diagnosis.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Tender Spots and Pain – Most everyone with Fibromyalgia seems to ache everywhere.  The pain can be similar to Tendonitis, Arthritis or Bursitis.  The pain can vary from person to person and be aching, dull, sharp, deep, or any combination thereof.  There are often “tender” spots that for no good reason, hurt when you touch them.

Sleep Problems – Most fibromyalgia sufferers experience sleep problems.  You may be able to get to sleep okay, but you have trouble staying asleep.  This tends to ware you down over time, which adds to your overall misery.

Morning Stiffness – This symptom is quite common.  You may wake up in the morning feeling stiff, inflexible.  It usually doesn’t last long, typically about 20 minutes.  This is one of the less miserable symptoms since you don’t have to have fibromyalgia to experience it.  Anyone who’s over-done-it the day before will wake up stiff the next morning.

Tingling or Swelling of the Hands or Feet – Although uncomfortable, these symptoms usually fade as the day goes on.  The symptoms can also be intermittent… some days you have them, some days you don’t.  They’re unpredictable.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome – About 66% of people with fibromyalgia have gut pain.  Diarrhea, constipation, gas, bloating and GERD (acid reflux) are common.

Urinary Problems – Fibromyalgia sufferers frequently have difficulty urinating or a leaky bladder.  These symptoms can also be caused by an infection so don’t assume… get blood tests for confirmation.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Headaches – Roughly 40% of people with fibromyalgia experience Migraine headaches on a regular basis.  This can be caused by stiff neck muscles or tender places on the back of your head or neck.

Mood Disorders – Problems like anxiety and depression often affect up to 50% of those with fibromyalgia.  This comes as no surprise.  Anytime you’re suffering from a painful affliction, it will wear on you mentally and emotionally – it’s almost unavoidable.  It can affect virtually every other part of your life, from mental sharpness to sleep habits and more.

Restless Legs Syndrome – Although it doesn’t always come with physical pain, it can certainly affect your ability to get a good night’s sleep.  It’s like your legs just can’t find a comfortable position… quite annoying.

Menstrual Cramps – Unusually painful menstrual cramps can be one of the symptoms for women with fibromyalgia.
